Cauvery award rap

New Delhi, Feb. 4 (PTI): The Supreme Court today directed the Centre to notify the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal award by February 20.

The court said the Centre “flouted the law” by sitting on it for five years. Earlier, the government had assured that it would notify the award by January 31 but later sought more time.

Harass check

Chandigarh (PTI): The Haryana government has asked technical institutions to post guards and install CCTV cameras at their main entrance to curb incidents of harassment.

Salman case

Jodhpur (PTI): Salman Khan did not appear before a court on Monday in the 1998 black buck poaching case. His counsel said the actor had pre-scheduled shooting plans.

Wild cat proposal

New Delhi, Feb. 4 (PTI): The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has said if a wild animal like a tiger or a leopard strays into human habitat, Section 144 of the CrPC that prohibits assembly of more than four persons in a particular area should be imposed.

This is part of the standard operating procedure developed by the NTCA to ensure the big cats do not fall victim to mob fury and they do not to cause injuries to people.

DGP notice

Ahmedabad, Feb. 4 (PTI): Gujarat High Court has issued a notice to director general of police Chittranjan Singh on a contempt of court filed by a head constable.The petitioner, Haroon Yusufbhai Kadiwala, has challenged the order of Singh refusing to transfer him from Himatnagar to Surat despite the high court’s order on April 12, 2012.

Kalmadi charges

New Delhi, Feb. 4 (PTI): A CBI court today framed charges against sacked CWG organising committee chairperson Suresh Kalmadi and nine others for allegedly cheating, conspiring and causing a loss of over Rs 90 crore to the exchequer.

The accused, including the panel’s secretary general Lalit Bhanot, have also been charged with forgery, criminal intimidation and destruction of evidence.

Hospital fine

New Delhi (PTI): The apex consumer forum has directed Chennai’s CSI Rainy Hospital to pay a Rs 1 lakh-compensation to a person, who underwent a faulty surgery 23 years ago. Chennai resident Javeed was diagnosed with hernia on the right side of his body. However, on August 12, 1989, the hospital operated on his left side.

MLA aide

Hyderabad: A gunman and security guard of Narasapur MLA Kothapalli Subbarayadu has been arrested after he allegedly filmed a bathing woman on his cell phone. A case has been registered against Shivakumar under relevant sections of IPC, police said.

Lankan held

Udhagamandalam (PTI): A 32-year-old Sri Lankan national, allegedly involved in sending Lankan Tamils living here to various countries using fake passports, was arrested on Monday. Eighty-two passports were seized from Manavakkal, police said.

Cadet dead

Pune: A cadet at the National Defence Academy (NDA) camp in Khadakwasla died during a training activity on Saturday. Ajitesh Goel was participating in a night navigation drill when he collapsed. He was taken to hospital but was declared brought dead. A probe is on, an NDA spokesperson said.

Smugglers

Azamgarh (PTI): Seven smugglers were arrested and 115 cattle heads were recovered from them in Uttar Pradesh’s Kandharpur area on Monday. The smugglers, who were travelling in four trucks, hailed from Ballia. The cattle were being taken to Bengal, an officer said.
