New GOC at Sukna
Siliguri, Feb. 3: Lt. Gen. Kamaljit Singh took over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Sukna-based Trishakti Corps on Friday.
According to army sources, he took charge from Lt. Gen. K. Surendranath. Lt. Gen. Singh is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1977. In his 35 years’ career, Lt. Gen. Singh served in different parts of the country and participated in various operations, including a UN peace keeping mission abroad. He was also awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal during the Republic Day celebrations this year.
Golf winners
Siliguri: Col. Deepak Sisodia of the Striking Lions Division in Kalimpong became the North Bengal Open Champion at the Himalayan Endeavour Golf held at the Mountain View Ecological Park at Bengdubi near Bagdora. The two-day event concluded on Sunday. Col. (rtd) P.C. Sarkar from Shivmandir and Maj. P.S. Gurung were the winners on the first and the second day respectively.
Assault
Balurghat: The superintendent of the Balurghat district hospital, Buddhadeb Mandal, was allegedly assaulted by a technician in the x-ray department of the outdoor section on Saturday evening when the former was overseeing the transfer of the cash counter from the surgical ward. Mandal lodged a police complaint against Bablu Kundu, who sources said, had been given a punishment transfer to Malda district hospital two years back.
