Ahmed scans Giridih plans

Ranchi, Feb. 3: Governor Syed Ahmed today asked officials to be more transparent in their functioning and ensure smooth execution of different welfare and development schemes.

He added that corruption at any stage would not be tolerated.

Presiding over a review meeting at Giridih Circuit House, Ahmed stressed on the need to improve law and order to make the public feel safe. He asked the police to improve their intelligence network and ensure timely action.

“Every FIR, howsoever small or insignificant may be the complaint, ought to be registered. Prompt action should be taken after proper inquiry. The poor must get a fair deal from the official machinery,” he said.

He then turned to the district civil surgeon and asked him to ensure the presence of doctors and paramedical staff at every hospital and health centre. He advised him to distribute work in such a way that every hospital and health centre had doctors and supporting staff.

Timely distribution of medicines among patients was his other important concern. The governor said medicines purchased by the government for distribution often went past their expiry dates in the storerooms, forcing poor patients to buy medicines from the open market. Sale of spurious medicines from retail outlets and even hospital medicine counters too has been reported.

He advised the civil surgeon to conduct regular raids on medicine outlets, ensure regular presence of doctors and supporting staff at their place of posting and maximise the benefits of different schemes meant for the poor.

“I will be coming here again after a month. If the number of patients coming to government run hospitals and health centres goes up by then, I will presume that your performance has improved,” the governor said.

This was the governor’s maiden review meeting at a district headquarter after President’s Rule was clamped in the state.

“Through his meeting the governor has also sent a word to all officials. In the coming days, he will be holding such review meetings in several districts. He has distributed all portfolios among his advisers also because he wants to give adequate time to field visits,” commented a senior official accompanying Ahmed.
