Jamshedpur Women’s College on Sunday was granted a special postal cover to commemorate its diamond jubilee.
Chief postmaster general of Jharkhand circle Kaushalendra Kumar Sinha released the special cover at a function on the college premises in the presence of Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar. The presence of an MP is mandatory while releasing a special postal cover.
Also present were senior Kolhan University officials. Finance adviser of the university Brajesh Kumar Tiwary released the college anthem — ‘Gyan, sheel, sanskriti, aalay, Jamshedpur Mahila Mahavidyalaya’. The lyrics have been written by faculty members Mudita Chandra and Vijay Kumar Piyush and the music composed by Sanatan Deep.
Apart from the special cover, another attraction during the diamond jubilee celebrations will be a mega musical night with playback singers Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet in attendance at Gopal Maidan.
“The college started with just five students and now boasts 13,000 students. The glorious journey has only been possible because of my students, teachers and staff. The credit goes to all of them,” said Shukla Mahanty, principal, Jamshedpur Women’s College.
The special cover has been designed by the college. The stamp includes a likeness of Tata Steel founder J.N. Tata and pictures of college activities. The cover includes a brief history of the college in Hindi and English.
The college was founded in 1953 by Perin Mehta. After 60 years, the institution earned “the college with potential for excellence” tag from the University Grants Commission and is adjudged one of the best colleges of the state.
“This is the first college in the state with which the postal department has associated. I wish this college reaches greater heights and we will support the college in our way in the future too,” said Sinha.
“This is an exceptional college but students should make sure that when you pass out, think about the greater good and not just your own success. Until you do good for others, life has no meaning,” said Ajoy Kumar.
