Films you watch on DVD to learn the craft:
I don’t watch films to learn the craft of acting. For that, I fall back on stage. I don’t learn from other people’s performances. That would be copying someone. Now I cannot learn from Tulsi Chakraborty because his time was different and mine is different... though he was a fantastic actor. Acting cannot be taught. Acting has to be learnt and if you have to learn it, you will have to do it yourself.
Films that have inspired you:
I like watching all kinds of films. I am a fan of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. I have watched a lot of Andrey Konchalovskiy films. I like action movies like Speed.... My taste varies. I also watch films that I have watched many times like Satyajit Ray films, the Batman and Star Wars series. I love watching these films. And I have a huge collection of animation films.
A recent film that has left you shaken and stirred:
All the (James) Bond films. Yet, I’m shaken, not stirred! (Laughs) I am a huge fan of Bond films.... I would catch the first-day-first-show of every James Bond film when I used to live in Delhi.
Films you watch to relax:
Films on wildlife. African Safari, Beautiful People and a whole lot of programmes on TV channels.
Films you watch for fun:
Animation films like Over The Hedge, Under The Sea, The Little Mermaid, Antz.... Toy Story is fantastic! I feel they are much ahead of what humans are making. The characterisation is brilliant. You can’t apply their technique in our films.
How many films do you watch every week?
I don’t watch films regularly because I love to travel with my camera.
