Metro delay
Metro services were disrupted for over 40 minutes from 2pm on Sunday after power supply to the automatic signalling system between Dum Dum station and Noapara car shed snapped. The first three trains from Dum Dum were delayed up to 15 minutes.
Clash
Friends and relatives of three youths who were injured in a road accident clashed with a guard at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital on Sunday for alleged negligence. Mustafa Kamal, 32, Abdul Karim, 30, and Bobby Das, 28, all residents of Narkeldanga Main Road, were injured in an accident in Dankuni. When the trio were brought to the hospital, two were admitted. Kamal, who suffered head injuries, was referred to MR Bangur Hospital. Mohammad Sajan Ghani, a relative of one of the youths, said the two had not been given injections for long.
Airport arrest
A Chinese was arrested at Calcutta airport early on Sunday for allegedly trying to smuggle red sandalwood out of India. Juang Zua Lee, 35, was supposed to catch a flight to China’s Kunming.
Molest cry
A woman has lodged a police complaint alleging that a worker looking after a water pump at Dum Dum municipality tried to molest her on Saturday night. The accused is absconding.
Astrologer
Mrinal Kanti Sashtri, an astrologer, was arrested at his Kalighat chamber on Sunday for allegedly duping people. |
