City to host Saif, Sonakshi

- Shoot for Tigmanshu’s next

From a shy Punjabi youth who follows his love to Calcutta to a rustic, kurta-clad gun-toting goon with a moustache, Saif Ali Khan will soon be back in the city to shoot for Tigmanshu Paan Singh Tomar Dhulia’s next venture. And joining him this time is Sonakshi Sinha.

If Love Aaj Kal saw Saif serenading Giselli Monteiro at Lake Market, Bullet Raja will have Saif and Sonakshi, who plays an urban Bengali girl, exploring the narrow lanes and bylanes and the grand old mansions of north Calcutta.

The film is a gangster flick based in Lucknow. “Sonakshi has her home in Calcutta and she takes Saif there for a few days. So the story comes to Calcutta,” Dhulia told Metro. “Apart from scenes, we are also going to shoot a song sequence in the city.”

The film’s crew will land in Calcutta on February 5. But a recce team has already toured the city and is in the process of finalising the locations.

“We are looking for a house for Sonakshi’s character. Woh grand old buildings hote hai na Calcutta mein? Waisa ek chahiye. Aur woh ek gali hai na jahan pe Durga ki murti banate hain (he was told that it’s Kumartuli), woh bhi hum use karenge (There are those grand old buildings in Calcutta. We need something like that. And isn’t there a lane where Durga idols are made? We’ll use that also),” said Dhulia. “We’ll also use the ghats.”

The director had visited the city as a child but has distinct memories of a few places like Park Street.

“I loved Calcutta in every frame whenever I saw Guru Dutt or Rajesh Khanna films.... The city looks beautiful on screen.”
