Dharna for Mada merger

A section of Mada employees, who were supposed to go on a strike from February 9 under the banner of Mada Sanyukta Karmachari Sangharsh Samanvaya Samiti, has softened its stand and has decided to stick to dialogues even as another group has started their second round of agitation.

The second group, which is staging phase-wise dharna under the banner of Pradhikar Karmachari Sangharsh Samanvaya Samiti since January 30, protested in front of Mada office on Thursday too. They will go on a three-day fast from February 1. The fast will be followed by an indefinite strike from February 4.

“We have merger of Mada with Dhanbad Municipal Corporation at the earliest and clearance of dues,” said convener Sudarshan Mahto.

The other faction, which is also protesting in favour of the same demands, launched a signature campaign and will send a delegation to Ranchi on Friday to meet development commissioner Debashish Gupta.

Earlier, this group had announced a strike from February 9.

“We have postponed our decision to meet the President to press for our demands in the wake of certain decisions taken by the administration. This includes constitution of a committee, headed by the development commissioner, on December 17 last year to look into the merger of Mada with the municipal corporation,” said co-convenor of the samiti Devendra Nath Dubey.

He pointed out that the committee had already initiated some steps to clear pending dues of Mada employees, settle liabilities and ensure absorption of the staff into Dhanbad Municipal Corporation. “We will seek all details on how things have progressed so far when we meet the development commissioner and will decide our future course of action accordingly,” Dubey added.
