Taxi driver returns bag
Baburam Mahato, a taxi driver, handed over a bag containing a Malaysian passport, $466 and around Rs 1,25,000 in Malaysian currency to Park Street police station on Thursday. Police said the bag belonged to Brandon John Theseiria, 19, a Malaysian who boarded the taxi at Howrah on Tuesday and got off on Royd Street.
Accidents
Bhatpara resident Debabrata Dutta, 28, who was injured in a collision between the autorickshaw he was travelling in and a mini-truck in Salt Lake Sector V early on Thursday, died at AMRI Hospitals, Salt Lake. Police said the auto was in the wrong lane. A Science City-bound vehicle hit Dilip Mondal, 45, a cyclist, on the EM Bypass early on Thursday. Mondal was declared dead at NRS hospital.
Phone theft
Ganesh Singh, 30, was arrested at Panditiya, near Rashbehari Avenue, on Thursday for allegedly stealing a neighbour’s cell phone. The phone was found on him, said cops.
Man shot at
Two men shot at Manik Dasgupta, 42, a construction material supplier, in Rishra on Thursday. He was admitted to hospital. |
