Calcutta: Mohammed Rafique scored a brace as Prayag United SC erased a one-goal deficit to eke out a 2-1 win against Kalighat MS in their second Super Nine game of the CFL Premier Division, on Wednesday, in Kalyani.

The start was a scrappy one for United SC. And they were made to pay for it as Kalighat went ahead through Christopher Chizoba’s 20th minute strike.

A miss-pass from Chinta Chandrasekhar Rao found Chizoba, who evaded the advancing United SC goalie Subrata Paul and slotted the ball home comfortably. United SC, however, made amends soon and drew level 12 minutes later.

Rafique made a solo run on receiving the ball off a defensive lapse and dazed his marker to finish with a fine right-footer, beating the rival goalkeeper all ends up.

Early in the second half, Rafique headed home a freekick from substitute James Singh that eventually turned out to be the winner.

Besides Rafique, Paul too played his part with a couple of brilliant saves to defy Kalighat.

Soon after Chizoba had given his team the lead, he came close to scoring again with a powerful right-footer, which was parried over the crosspiece by Paul.
