Keating no more

Calcutta: Frank Keating, one of Britain's leading sports writers over the past 50 years, has died at the age of 75.

He passed away at St Michael’s Hospice, Hereford, on Friday. He had been suffering from pneumonia.

Keating enjoyed an extraordinary career in sports journalism. He joined The Guardian in 1963 as a sub-editor, leaving a year later to go into television as editor of outside broadcasts for Rediffusion TV.

In 1968 he moved to Thames TV, becoming head of special projects and then news editor. But in 1970, Keating returned and continued to write for The Guardian and its sister paper, The Observer, until last December.
