Navajyoti triumph

Guwahati, Jan. 30: Ranji veterans Nishanta Bordoloi and Bitop Mahanta stole the show as Navajyoti Club posted a 93-run win against City Cricket Club in the inaugural match of Spinner 10000 Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.

Put in to bat, Navajyoti rode a run-a-ball century by Bordoloi to pile up 252 for four in the stipulated 40 overs. In reply, City were restricted to 159 for nine in 40 overs.

Bordoloi, who has hung up his boots in first class cricket for a few years now and is currently a BCCI panel umpire apart from being a NCA qualified fitness trainer, scored 115, hitting 13 boundaries and two sixes facing 116 balls. He was eventually named Man of the Match.

His teammates Abhijit Singha Roy and Bikash Chhetri contributed 54 (4x6) and 16 (4x1, 6x1) respectively.

Dhiraj Chhetri of City scalped two wickets for 43 runs while Chandradeep Das and Abhay Yadav picked up one each.

City were in the chase with Sohail Rahman scoring a breezy 50 (4x7) and 29 runs, laced with two fours and as many sixes, coming from the bat of Nabajyoti Hazarika. Their key batsman Rahul Hazarika, however, could score only 20 (4x4).

Bikash Chetry and Bitop Mahanta shared three wickets each for 20 and 28 runs respectively and Abhinab Konwar chipped in with two for 26.
