Carlos Santana, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5.... Trincas played host to all of them and some on Friday night thanks to Canada-based musicians Malcolm Edwards and Francis Fernandes.
Who they? Malcolm was born in Dehradun, while Francis is from Calcutta and he used to play at The Saturday Club. Together they are a part of The Malcolm Edwards’ Showband (which also features Russ Strathdee and Sonny Milne).
Malcolm belted out some of Calcutta’s favourite covers at the iconic Park Street address. And boy, can he impersonate voices! Well enough to make diners at Trincas dance and sing along.
“This is the first time I’ve come to Calcutta to perform and to tell you the truth, I had a lovely time performing here,” said Malcolm, who used to play at the Oberoi Intercontinental, New Delhi.
“The USP of Malcolm is his ability to sing in many voices. Personally, I loved The Medley (songs by the Beatles),” said Deepak Puri of Trincas.
Time flew as the duo moved from Another Brick In The Wall (Pink Floyd) to What A Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) to Moves Like Jagger (Maroon 5). And for some of the oldies at Trincas, it was like happy nights are here again.
