Brakes on bus stop revamp

A change in the chief municipal officer’s post has delayed the proposal for the re-development of dilapidated bus stops in the city.

In December 2012, mayor Afzal Imam told The Telegraph that the bus stops would be developed on public-private partnership basis. However, on Tuesday, the mayor said: “The bus stops would definitely be developed by the civic body or by some private firms but progress on this proposal got stalled owing to the recent transfer of the municipal commissioner. It was supposed to be tabled in the last meeting of the standing committee but that could not be done. Now, I would talk to the new commissioner (Adesh Titarmare) on this issue and I am certain that the proposal would be tabled in the committee’s next meeting.”

The date of the said meeting, however, has not been finalised yet.

As most of the existing bus stops are dilapidated, passengers prefer to maintain a safe distance from them.
