PCC chiefís brother held

Agartala, Jan. 28: Tripura PCC president Sudip Roy Barmanís brother and businessman Sandip Roy Barman, 49, alias Pantha, was arrested this afternoon with illegal arms, ammunition and an unspecified amount of Bangladesh currency.

According to the officer-in-charge of Jirania police station, Babul Das, officers and jawans of the Assam Rifles had requisitioned police force from Jirania for conducting a raid on Rita Brick Kiln, known to be owned by Sandip, son of former chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman and elder brother of Sudip.

A combined force of the Assam Rifles and Tripura police stormed into the brick kiln.

ďThe police and the Assam Rifles jawans seized a revolver, one rifle, eight cartridges and an unspecified amount of Bangladeshi currency from the office,Ē Das said.

Sudip called a news conference and described the incident as a deep-rooted conspiracy and claimed that Sandip was completely innocent. He said the Assam Rifles and the police had framed him at the behest of the CPM.
