Jan. 28: Police last night found a semi-decomposed body of an unidentified person inside a garbage bin at Fatasil Ambari. The body recovered was that of a male, aged around 40 years.
Sources at Gorchuk police station said the body was found inside a sack when a waste-dumping vehicle of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) had carried the garbage bin from the Fatasil Ambari traffic point and was offloading at Boragaon, on the city outskirts.
The GMC dumps the garbage at Boragaon where it has set up the Guwahati waste management plant.
“Workers of the GMC sighted the body when they were offloading the garbage late last night. Then they informed us. We found a rope tied around the neck and it is suspected that he was murdered and dumped into the garbage bin. We suspect that the murder was committed at least two days ago as the body was semi-decomposed,” a source said.
The police said the unidentified body was sent to the GMCH for post-mortem. “We will be able to ascertain the cause of death of the person once the post-mortem report arrives,” the source said.
The police have informed all police stations in the city to ascertain the identity of the victim. “We are trying to study all the missing complaints lodged with police stations in the last one month and find out if there is any complaint about the missing of a male person aged around 40 years,” the source said.
