Cosmo team walks out

Imphal, Jan. 28: The match between Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong and Cosmopolitan Youth Club, Imphal was disrupted after players of the Cosmopolitan team stormed out of the field in protest against the referee’s decision to expel captain L. Herojit on the first day of the quarter-final league round of the 14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium today.

Assam Regimental Centre’s R.K. Anandajit scored a field goal in the fifth minute of play.

The Cosmopolitan captain protested and said the goal was scored because the referee ignored a fault committed by an Assam Regimental player.

When he continued to protest, the referee showed him a yellow card.

However, the skipper’s protest continued, forcing the referee to show a red card.

The red card provoked the other players of Cosmopolitan and in protest they stormed out of the field, ending the match. The organisers, Hockey Manipur, will take a decision on the result of the match after receiving reports from the match commissioner and the referee.

In the other league round match, Manipur Police Sports Club defeated Super Sporting Association by 7-2 goals.

State archery: L. Ramananda of SAI emerged as the top medal winners in the 27th junior state archery championship, which concluded at Khuman Lampak today. He won two gold medals in the 90-metre boys’ recurve event and another in the 30-metre boys’ recurve event. He won two bronze medals in the 70-metre boys’ recurve and 50-metre boys’ recurve.
