Services disrupted

Jorhat, Jan. 28: Ferry services to Majuli from Neematighat were disrupted and the Neemati police station was gheraoed following a bandh call today by the residents of the Neemati area. This came in the wake of the murder of Bhaity Das at Neemati-ghat on last evening.

Blockade

Dibrugarh: AASU activists in Chabua blocked NH 37 and burnt the effigy of chief minister Tarun Gogoi in protest against non-implementation of the Assam Accord, and other issues like update of NRC.

Demise

Dibrugarh: Kaushalya Ghatowar, 87, mother of DoNER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar passed away at AMCH, here at 11.20am on Monday. She was cremated at Doomur Dolong tea estate near Moran in the district.

Meet

Guwahati: Senior officials of the army and the air force on Monday called on Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki to discuss core issues related to the army and air force in the state. The discussion was also attended by chief secretary H.K. Paliwal, among others.

Dry days

Guwahati: In purview of the 2nd phase of panchayat election in the state which is scheduled to be held on February 6, 2013, dry days have been declared for a period of 48 hours i.e. from 3pm of February 4, 2013 till 3pm of February 6, 2013.

Suspended

Imphal: The Kuki State Demand Committee suspended temporarily from 7.30pm on Monday its four day long public blockade imposed in Kuki inhabited areas demanding creation of Kuki state. The decision was taken after a meeting with chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
