Ranchi, Jan. 28: Manika MLA Harekrishna Singh had a close shave today as he attended a religious function at Latehar’s Palaiya village, 25km from district headquarters, despite intelligence reports warning about the presence of 50-60 rebels in the area.
Sources said Singh reached the area around 10.30am to attend a satchandi yagna, a ritual performed in honour of the mother goddess, but was forced to leave in a hurry after intelligence inputs reported the movement of rebels towards the yajna sthal.
The news spread considerable amount of panic among the villagers who informed local police who in turn updated district SP Kranti G. Kumar of the situation.
Agencies said a group of armed rebels later made their way to the village and conducted a search for over an hour looking for the MLA.
Speaking to reporters, SP Kumar confirmed the incident and said action would be taken against the five police officers who had accompanied Singh.
“They face suspension as they flouted norms. They had instructions not to let the MLA leave his house, which they did not adhere to. Secondly, having been deputed at Singh’s home they had no business accompanying him to the village,” Kumar said.
