RS bypoll on February 14

Patna: The Election Commission on Monday issued notification for the bypoll for the Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar. The seat became vacant after Upendra Kushwaha resigned from the membership of the Upper House of Parliament on January 4. he commission fixed February 4 as the last date for filing nomination papers for the seat and scrutiny of papers would be done on February 5. Those willing to withdraw their candidature can do so latest by February 7 and votes for the seat would be cast on February 14 between 9am and 4pm. Counting of votes would begin on the same day at 5pm.

Bridge tournament

Patna: Chief electoral officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh on Monday inaugurated the VN Mishra Memorial Open Paris Bridge tournament at New Patna Club. The event was organised by Bihar Bridge Association.

Procurement

Patna: Chief miinister Nitish Kumar on Monday directed the in-charge secretaries of districts to camp in their respective jurisdictions to ensure target procurement of paddy. He issued the directive while holding a review meeting to take stock of the progress made on the paddy procurement front.

Patna: The members of Punjabi Bradri paid tributes to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Monday.

Patna: A cultural programme was organised at Premchand Rangshala on Monday as part of the annual function of Central School, Postal Park. Patna College principal Rash Bihari Singh lighted the inaugural lamp, following whi-ch schoolchildren presented a cultural programme.

Patna: Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party on Monday claimed that the proposed rally of Anna Hazare in Patna on January 30 would lose its meaning if it failed to raise the issues related to corruption in Bihar.

Patna: Members of Bihar Jharkhand Vidyut Parishad Field Kamgar Union would form a human chain outside Vidyut Bhavan on January 31 in support of their various demands, including those related to anomalies in their pay scale.

Bollywood steps

Patna: Popular choreographer Saroj Khan was in the city on Monday as a jury member of “Dance Ke ustaad”, a championship inaugurated by art culture and youth affairs minister Sukhada Pandey. “This is my first visit to the city. I am searching for new talents,” said the choreographer.
