Molest slur on jawan in Calcutta

Calcutta, Jan. 28: A BSF jawan in uniform was arrested today for allegedly molesting and passing lewd comments at a journalist near the busy Shyambazar five-point crossing.

Police said the journalist was waiting to get into a restaurant with some friends when the jawan and at least two colleagues came out of it.

“There were three or four youths in the group. The jawan first made indecent remarks and then groped me,” said the woman, who works with a Bengali news channel.

She added: “For some time, I stood in shock. Then I started shouting and ran behind him.”

The jawan, who the police identified as Manish Rajinder, was caught by pedestrians and the woman, and was handed over to policemen manning a kiosk at the five-point crossing. The others in the group managed to flee.

Rajinder, who is posted in Gujarat and was on his way for polls in some northeastern states next month, and his colleagues were spending some time in the city before taking a train to their destination.

The woman, who has lodged a complaint of molestation, said she had no complaints against the others in the group.
