Convict dies

Jorhat, Jan. 27: Kiran Hazarika, 59, a murder convict serving a life sentence in Jorhat Central Jail, died at Jorhat Medical Collegeand Hospital last evening after he was admitted following an ailment.

Clash toll

Jorhat: Bhaity Das, 40, was killed while Bijon Das, 35, was injured when two groups of youths clashed at Neematighat on Sunday after they had a quarrel.

Award

Jorhat: During the Republic Day function held at the court field here on Saturday, the District Tobacco Control Cell awarded the Best Tobacco-Free Educational Institute in 2012 to C.K.B. College Teok in the district.

Youths drown

Golaghat: The bodies of two youths Rajat Phukan and Nippu Hazarika who drowned in Dhansiri river here on Saturday, were recovered on Sunday.

Bodies found

Dibrugarh: The bodies of Nabajyoti Gogoi, Sourav Gogoi and Tulya Gogoi, who drowned in Buridihing near Duliajan town in the district on Saturday, were recovered on Sunday.

Gutted

Golaghat: Two houses were gutted in a fire at Amolapatty here on Sunday. The suspected cause was an LPG cylinder burst.
