Bagan rope in Jacobs

McDowell Mohun Bagan signed Quinton Jacobs on Friday for the remainder of the season. The Namibian midfielder, who has joined from Salgaocar SC, practised with the Bagan team on Friday. Quinton is likely to play a part in Bagan’s next I-League tie, against Prayag United SC on Sunday.

Soccer meet

Imran Ali scored the winner to help Ashoknagar Football Coaching Centre defeat Barasat United Football in the final of the Ganga Football Utsav, organised by New Bani Sangha, on Friday. Suvankar Sarkar was declared as the best promising player.

Half marathon

More than 20,000 participants will be vying for the Kolkata Half Marathon title, which will be held on February 3. The half marathon is a 21km run, which will kick off from the Mohammedan Sporting Club.

Tennis tourney

Rishabh Agarwal, on Friday, set up a summit clash with Chin Chun Tang in boys’ singles category of the Gujarat NRE ITF Junior Tennis tournament, held at the DKS. While Rishabh defeated Mehdi Abid 6-4, 3-0; Chin beat Skander Mansouri 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

In the girls’ category, Greetje Minnen will face Simran Kaur Sethi in the final. Greetje Minnen beat Snehadevi Reddy 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 while Simran Kaur Sethi got the better of Ksenija Sharifova 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

State Games

Rupesh Roy on Friday, bagged the gold medals in the men’s singles category of the tennis event in State Games, respectively. Rupesh beat Saurav Sukul 6-4, 6-4. In football, Youth Footballers WA thrashed Jubak Sangha 4-0 while W.B. Police SC blanked Bally Gramanchal KS 3-0.
