Murder arrest
Guwahati, Jan. 25: Basistha police arrested Mahanta Boro alias Maleng, 25, from Gor-chuk last night for his alleged involvement in the murder of Ram Prashad Sahu on December 10. Boro, along with others, had allegedly bludgeoned Sahu to death following an argument.
Apprehended
Guwahati: Paltan Bazar police arrested Jyotish Bhuyan, 35, from Srimantapur here on Thursday for allegedly demanding Rs 1 crore from businessman Bhagya Kalita in the name of Ulfa.
Kins held
Guwahati: Siblings Arzu Ahmed, 25, and Mofida Begum, 23, were arrested for allegedly strangulating their younger brother Mokibul Ali, 23, to death at their residence in Dhirenpara on Thursday night. Police arrested the duo on basis of a complaint lodged by Ali’s wife Zarina Begum.

Guwahati: Names of additional director-general of police (training and armed police) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and commandant of first Assam police battalion N.M.A.S.F. Haque have been announced for the President’s police medal for distinguished service on Friday.
