Constable held for molestation

Shillong, Jan. 25: A Meghalaya police constable was arrested today for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl in East Garo Hills district.

The unarmed branch constable has been identified as Ajaybirth Marak of Songsak police station, the police said.

The arrested constable has been booked under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 9(a) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, which entails imprisonment for not less than five years that may be extended to seven years.

According to the police, Marak has been sent to judicial custody.
