Egypt clashes

Cairo, Jan. 25 (Reuters): Protesters clashed with police across Egypt today on the second anniversary of the revolt that toppled Hosni Mubarak, taking to the streets against the elected Islamist President.

At least 91 civilians and 42 security personnel were hurt in violence across the country, officials said. Street battles erupted in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Port Said, where the Muslim Brotherhood’s party offices were torched.

Russia gays

Moscow (Reuters): Russian police detained 20 people on Friday when gay activists tried to stage a “kiss-in” outside parliament to protest against a draft law banning the promotion of homosexuality among minors.

Mali push

Mopti, Mali (AP): Mali’s military and French forces have pushed towards the extremist stronghold in the city of Gao, in their farthest push east.

Fake Chavez

Madrid: Spanish paper El Pais withdrew thousands of copies from sale on Thursday after it printed a fake photograph supposedly showing Venezuela President Chavez in his hospital bed.
