Hyojin scores a brace

Calcutta: Putting aside their disappointing start to the Super Nine stage of CFL Premier Division, Mohammedan Sporting notched up a crucial 2-0 win over Southern Samity, in Kalyani, on Thursday.

Sporting didn’t make the mistake they had made in their previous game against Kalighat MS — squandering sitters one after another.

The promising Shin Hyojin rose to the occasion, on Thursday, with a brace that won his team the contest.

The Korean earned the lead for Sporting towards the end of the first half, converting off a through ball from the midfield.

Hyojin then doubled the lead in the 55th minute, which sealed the game for the black-and-white brigade. A shot from Gouranga Dutta came off the vertical, falling back to Hyojin, who pounced onto it before heading home.

Mohammedan Sporting coach Aloke Mukherjee was a relieved man, terming it as a “timely” victory for his team. He also lauded his boys for putting up a much improved show from their last match.

“It was a timely win for us. Good that we didn’t waste the chances as we had done in our previous game,” Mukherjee said.
