Rhinos avenge Wizards blow

Victory tastes sweeter after a defeat not deserved.

Ranchi Rhinos, who went down fighting against Delhi Waveriders on Wednesday, couldnít agree more after they regained lost ground in yet another thrilling Hockey India League (HIL) match on Thursday. The Rhinos avenged their past defeat and drubbed Uttar Pradesh Wizards 3-1 in the evening tie.

The match began at 6pm with both teams in attack mode. The first lead came in the 30th minute, when Rhinos captain Moritz FŁrste put the ball right into the net having received a pass from homegrown hero Birendra Lakra.

The second half proved to be crucial, as in the 52nd minute, Luke Doerner converted a penalty corner against the Rhinos into a smart equaliser for the Wizards. Their magic smile, however, did not last long. A goal in the 63rd minute from Nick Wilson gave a clear edge to the Rhinos, taking the team to a 2-1 lead.

And just when the audience thought the match would end, the Rhinos earned a penalty. Ashley Jackson sealed victory for the team, scoring the third goal in the last minute.

Once the match was over, none other than hockeyís living legend Dhanraj Pillai, who had captained India in several international matches, rose to cheer both teams.

Like usual, the Astroturf Hockey Stadium at Morabadi was packed throughout the eventful evening and Bollywood starlet Zarine Khan did not disappoint her fans either, gyrating to many an item number before the match.

The Rhinos once again take on the Wizards on Saturday, but in Lucknow.
