Enter, park plaza, a star hotel off gariahat

South Calcutta’s just got a brand new star destination. Launched by Raima Sen on Tuesday, the latest addition to the city’s hospitality map is Park Plaza, marked by a contemporary decor and an eco-friendly theme.

Located at 17 Garcha First Lane (near Pantaloons, Gariahat), the six-storeyed hotel is spread across 85,00,000sq ft and houses 92 rooms, three suites and six F&B outlets.

This marks Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group’s official entry into eastern India. “Calcutta was a must-have on our list. We were blessed in a way that this part of the city did not have any international brand coming up yet,” said Ronnie Lobo, vice-president, operations, South Asia, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

The terrace promises to be a winner with dance floor Klink and roof-top barbecue kitchen Smoke Shack. “We are going to let this space out for private parties for the time being,” said Vinay Nair, general manager, Park Plaza. An open-air swimming pool and jacuzzi are the added attractions.

The interiors, done by designer and architect Vinoo Chadha, have an eco-friendly theme. “We have used a lot of glass everywhere. This way, the area looks brighter and we can save on energy. Even the rooms have very large windows to allow ample sunlight,” added Nair.
