Aamir & Sanju for Hirani: Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt will be seen together on screen for the first time in Rajkumar Hirani’s Peekay.

The deadly Dutt is rumoured to be playing a Rajasthani villager with Aamir in the role of an “idealistic” alcoholic. The two actors, who are friends off screen, have individually notched up blockbusters with Hirani — Aamir with 3 Idiots and Dutt with the Munnabhai films.

According to sources, Hirani had Arshad Warsi in mind for the role, but ultimately chose Dutt when Arshad could not make time due to his commitment to Vishal Bhardwaj’s Dedh Ishqiya.

Slated to go on the floors later this year, Peekay has already generated a lot of hype and is said to be a satire that addresses corruption in religion, much like Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal’s 2012 sleeper hit Oh My God!

While Anushka Sharma plays the female lead, Hirani has bypassed Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Shahid Kapoor to cast Kai Po Che! newcomer Sushant Singh Rajput as the second male lead after Aamir.

Calcutta girl Is ghai’s heroine: Calcutta girl Mishti (right) is Subhash Ghai’s leading lady in his new film Kaanchi. The 21-year-old, who reportedly has no prior acting experience, got past 250-odd other girls to land the role in Ghai’s latest that stars Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty. Meenakshi Seshadri, Manisha Koirala and Mahima Chaudhary have all been Ghai discoveries.

Meanwhile, Ghai’s hunt for the hero continues. The Showman is apparently keen on casting Kartik Tiwari, whose Akaash Vani hits screens today. However, it may not be easy because the Pyaar Ka Punchnama actor has already got his dates blocked for the sequel of the 2011 youth film.
