Melinda hails health reforms

Patna, Jan. 24: Melinda Gates today appreciated the work of Anganwadi workers in the state at a one-and-a-half-hour meeting with officials of the health department.

The spouse of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is associated with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, also held meetings with officials of the public health engineering department, Unicef and its development partners to discuss health projects being run with financial support from the foundation.

A media release from the information and public relations department said Melinda Gates hailed the government’s work in the eradication of polio and kalaazar in the state.

The note said during her visit to the primary health centre at Bakhtiyarpur, Melinda appreciated the work of Anganwadi workers and praised the co-ordination between auxiliary nurse midwives and Anganwadi workers.

Melinda, during her meeting with chief minister Nitish Kumar enlightened him about the various programmes being run by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The issue of population control was also raised in the meeting.
