Dull show by United

Calcutta: Techno Aryan have earned the ‘giant-killers’ tag with their spirited performances in the last few editions of the Calcutta Football League.

On Wednesday, in a CFL Premier Division tie, here, at the Salt Lake Stadium, they might not have beaten Prayag United SC, but ensured that they hold their superior opponents in a goalless draw.

Aryan coach Raghu Nandy’s strategy was simple — play defensive and get more and more people back to cramp the rivals for room and slow the game down.

The strategy worked to perfection, as there were hardly two or three chances that came United SC’s way in the entire match.

However, better finishing could certainly have enabled United SC to script a different result.

Striker Kayne Vincent had set one up for Sankar Oraon, off Ravinder Singh’s centre from the left flank. But Oraon’s right-footer sailed over the crosspiece.
