Job joy for ISM Pundag students
- Hotel management batch gets placed across the country

The starting salary may not be that great, but that has not killed the excitement of hotel management students of Institute of Science Management (ISM), Pundag.

The students, as well as the authorities, are happy that almost all of them have bagged jobs when the country is grappling with an economic slowdown. As many as 73 out of 75 students, who completed a three-year course in hotel management and catering technology (HMCT) this year, have been placed in reputable hotels across the country.

While 25 students got placed in Bangalore, around 22 were taken by Chennai hotels. Ten found their calling in Pune and four each in Ahmedabad and Srinagar. In New Delhi and Gurgaon, the number of students who got placed are two and three, respectively. Patna hotels took three of them and Ranchi only one.

Out of the 73 students who got jobs, 63 will draw a salary of Rs 1,75,000 per annum. The other 10 will get less.

“After successful placement of hotel management students, we are confident about finding good companies for those pursuing business management as well,” said executive vice-chairman R.N. Singh. He joined the institute seven months ago after retiring from the post of executive director of Indian Institute of Coal Management.

Singh added that the MBA batch had 45 students and they would complete the course by the end of March.

“Many students have already been selected by companies like Greaves Cotton Ltd, Manikaran Power, Shyam Steels, Hindalco, Pride Group et al. Several other reputable firms are likely to come in February. We hope that all students will get placed before the admission process for the 2013 batch comes to an end by mid-March. The process is going to start from January 29,” he said.

Asked about the relatively low package offered to the hotel management students, he said: “The salary of every student will automatically increase once they complete 18 months’ training. According to rules, the hotels recruit young professionals as hotel operation training, who are later promoted to higher positions and automatically get better salary.”

ISM was established at Pundag in 1985.

It offers a three-year degree course in hotel management and catering technology and two-year postgraduate diploma in management besides a three-year degree in bachelor in business administration and a three-year degree in bachelor in computer application.
