Siliguri doc accused of molesting patient kin

Siliguri, Jan. 22: A doctor at the Siliguri district hospital has been accused of allegedly molesting a woman and pushing her “indecently” out of the male ward where she had gone to meet her ailing father.

The 30-year-old woman has filed a complaint with the Siliguri police station and a case under Section 354 (molestation) has been started.

“The doctor came around 10.30am and asked me to get out. My father is there and my mother and I had gone to see him. When we protested, the doctor pushed me indecently and shoved us out of the ward,” said the woman.

“My father was hospitalised with breathing troubles seven days ago. The doctor has been misbehaving with us over the past few days. Today, he crossed all limits.”

The doctor in question Krishnendu Dey denied the allegations.

“When I visited the ward around 10.30am, the mother and the daughter were there. I told them to leave as the visiting hour was over. But when I came back for the second round, they were trying to enter again. I stood guard at the entrance but they tried to push me and get inside. There was a jostle and the woman started shouting and blamed me for misbehaving with them.”

Siliguri MLA Rudranath Bhattacharya said: “We have told the CMOH of Darjeeling to form a committee and submit a report in seven days. On the basis of the findings, further steps would be taken.”

In another incident, a 30-year-old woman from Bagdogra was allegedly molested by a youth while she was going to her workplace in Siliguri in a private bus.

Rahul Yadav was thrashed and handed over to Pradhannagar police. A complaint has been filed and Yadav was arrested.
