Sambalpur, Jan. 22: A committee of the Odisha Assembly yesterday visited the District Headquarters Hospital here and expressed displeasure at the state of affairs at the hospital.
The committee of legislators expressed dissatisfaction over poor sanitation, drainage system and bad condition of the buildings of the hospital.
The eight-member house committee, headed by Prabhat Biswal, visited several wards and instructed the authorities to pay immediate attention towards the problems.
“The roof of the paediatric ward is in a bad shape. This may lead to serious mishaps. Water must be leaking through the roof during the rains,” said Biswal.
“These matters have been discussed at a review meeting,” said Biswal while adding that the district collector had been asked to organise a special meeting to resolve the issues.
A few local residents complained to the committee that the drain water of the hospital was being released to residential areas and entering their houses.
The committee instructed the chief district medical officer and the executive engineer of the roads and buildings department to take immediate initiative and ensure that the residents of the area were not subjected to inconveniences of such nature.
The committee asked the two officials to prepare an estimate to make the entrance gates of the hospital attractive and submit the proposal to the government.
Chief district medical officer Panchanan Patel said: “The collector has promised that measures will be taken to solve these problems. The collector will convene a meeting of the executive officer of the municipality and the executive engineer of the roads and buildings department to find a solution to the drainage problem of the hospital.”
“The executive engineer of the roads and buildings department has promised that the department would take immediate measures to repair the roof of the paediatric ward of the District Headquarters Hospital,” said Patel.
