70 in fray for chess meet

Over 70 budding chess players will be seen in action at the under-7 and sub-junior district chess championship to be held at JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur from January 25 to 27.

The opening round will be played after the inauguration of the event, being organised by East Singhbhum District Chess Association. Total rounds to be played will be announced at the time of inauguration, said district body functionary Jayant Bhuyan.

“Performance during the two day championship will be used as the yardstick for selection of players for the state championship,” Bhuyan said.

The 16-member district team will comprise four boys and as many girls in the under-15 squad, two boys and two girls in the under-13 squad and same number of boys and girls for under-7.

Participants can send their entries to Ashok Varma (9234872396), R.N. Sharma (9204970087), A.K. Singh (7209565750), J.N. Singh (9835760395) and Chandan K. Prasad (8102988219). They can also contact Bhuyan (9934339806).
