Carlson to expand in east

Calcutta, Jan. 22: Hospitality group Carlson Rezidor plans to take over the management of two more properties — one each in Calcutta and Guwahati — by the end of 2013.

The move is part of the group’s plan to increase the number of hotels under management to over 100 by 2015.

The company, which has its headquarters in Belgium, today inaugurated its first 92-room managed property in Calcutta under the Park Plaza brand. City-based Mukti Group developed the property.

“We are looking to add two more properties in the eastern region at Hastings (Calcutta) and Guwahati by the end of 2013,” Ronnie Lobo, vice-president, operations (South Asia), Carlson Rezidor, said today during the inauguration of the Calcutta property.

While the 100-room Radisson Blu property at Hastings will be developed by the city-based Saraf Group, the 170-room property in Guwahati will be developed by the Dharampal Satyapal group.

“Our plan is to be in every capital city of the country and then expand in the emerging B and C towns (smaller towns). We have 63 hotels under management and we have 44 more in the pipeline across different brands,” Lobo said.

At present, the company has six brands under its umbrella. They are Radisson, Radisson Blu, Park Plaza, Park Inn, Country Inns and Suites, and Hotel Missoni.
