Bhubaneswar, Jan. 21: The state government today asked block development officers (BDOs) to tour their respective areas for at least 15 days a month.
Panchayti raj minister Kalpataru Das said: “Unless the BDOs visit the area, people’s issues cannot be addressed.” The government has also asked the BDOs to base themselves at the block headquarters.
“Most BDOs are not staying at their headquarters, which adversely affects the functioning of the department,” said the minister, adding that action could be taken against erring BDOs.
Panchayti raj secretary Aparajita Sarangi said work orders for projects to be taken up in 2013-14 should be ready by April 19. “Appropriate decision should be taken by the executive engineer pertaining to proposals submitted to him by assistant engineer within 15 days. If no appropriate orders come within 15 days, the estimate would be deemed to have been approved,” said Sarangi.
