Three held for killing contractor

Balangir, Jan. 21: Police arrested three persons for allegedly murdering two persons, including a contractor, last week.

However, the alleged mastermind of the twin murders, Jaya Prakash Pati, who happens to be the vice-chairman of Loisingha block, is still at large.

The police arrested Damodar Patel, a member of the Balangir sadar block, Yubraj Bhoi of Badimunda and Adikanda Sahu of Sadhupali.

They seized a car of Pati that was allegedly used in the act.

Balangir superintendent of police R. Prakash said the identity of another absconding person accused in the case had not been disclosed as it might hamper the investigation.

The police superintendent said: “We have formed a special team to nab the culprits and recover the weapons used in the case as early as possible.”

He attributed the cause of the murder to personal enmity between the deceased contractor and Pati.

“At this stage, it is not possible to say what kind of enmity it was. But it might be related to some contractual work,” said the police superintendent.
