Magicians go down

Mumbai: Punjab Warriors edged out Mumbai Magicians 4-2 in a fast-paced Hockey India League encounter at the MHA Mahindra Stadium to notch up their first victory in four games.

In another match, Uttar Pradesh Wizards struck twice in the second half to score a 2-0 victory over Ranchi Rhinos. A reverse hit by Jeroen Hertzberger and a penalty corner conversion by skipper VR Raghunath was good enough to earn Uttar Pradesh Wizards full points.

The Warriors took an early lead but the Magicians rallied back and then moved up 2-1 before a concerted Punjab attack struck twice in the space of three minutes to surge into a 3-2 lead. Later, Dharamvir Singh struck in the final minute for his second goal to complete the tally.

It was Punjab’s first win in four games and took their points tally to 8.         (PTI)
