It’s fantastic news: Sunny

Calcutta: The past few months have brought little cheer to those who swear by the Indian cricket team. Failure to make even the semi-final of the World T20, a loss to England in the Test series, being defeated by Pakistan in the ODIs...

Against that backdrop, getting back to No.1 in the ODI rankings is mighty pleasing and, among those rejoicing, is the iconic Sunil Gavaskar.

“It’s fantastic news... Winning should, indeed, be turned into a habit,” Gavaskar, a former captain, told The Telegraph on Sunday evening.

Speaking soon after arriving from Ranchi, on an overnight visit, Gavaskar added: “There’s nothing like winning and it’s important for the team to have momentum going into the (Test) series versus Australia, which begins next month.”

Describing as “awesome” India’s win in the third ODI against England, Gavaskar said: “To be winners with almost 22 overs remaining is massive, really massive... The team deserves a pat.”
