Berhampur, Jan. 19: An elephant died after falling into an abandoned well at Humma in Ganjam district, about 40km from here, last night.
“The body of a 35-year-old tusker was recovered today from a well filled with 25-feet deep water. The tusker fell into the well with its head down and we fished out the carcass from the well with the help of a JCB machine and fire brigade personnel,” said Khallikote forest ranger Bijaya Kumar Hota. The pachyderms came from Jhinkaria in Dumunagiri hills.
