Jamshedpur, Jan. 19: The Jharkhand squad started well today by bagging eight medals — three gold, as many silver and two bronze — in the Indian Round category of the ongoing 33rd Sub-Junior (Boys and Girls) National Archery Championship at Bangalore.
Silli archers Simpy Kumari and Anita Kumari clinched individual gold medals in the girls’ category with the former bagging a bronze as well. Indrani Kujur from Lohardaga won silver and bronze medals in the individual section.
In the boys’ category, Mukesh Turi brought home two individual silver while the junior team clinched one gold.
Jharkhand Archery Association has sent a 24-member team to the tourney, with as many as eight registering from Silli alone.
The squad was selected on the basis of the archer’s performance at the 10th state archery championship held in Bokaro from December 12 to 15.
The state, which faltered to Andhra Pradesh in the final and missed out on the title last year, will try and make amends.
A lot, however, depends on how the archers perform in the upcoming recurve and compound divisions.
