Bolshoi surgery

Moscow, Jan. 19 (AP): Russian officials say the artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet will need at least one more operation after an attacker threw acid in his face and that it’s not yet clear if the sight in his right eye can be saved.

No arrests have been made in the Thursday night attack on Sergei Filin, which his colleagues say may have been retaliation for his selection of certain dancers for prized roles.

Egypt court

Cairo (Reuters): An Egyptian court dismissed cases against 379 people accused of involvement in clashes with police during protests near the interior ministry in November 2011.

Saudi rape

Las Vegas (Reuters): A Saudi Air Force sergeant in the US for training has been arrested on child sexual assault charges over accusations he raped a 13-year-old boy in a Las Vegas hotel.

Mercury deal
