Child run over

Kokrajhar, Jan. 18: A mob torched four vehicles, including two police vehicles, after Mohibul Islam, 4, a KG student of Bijni Arunodoy Jatiya Vidyalaya, was run over by a Tata Mobile on the Bijni-Subhaijhar road around 9 this morning. The mob also manhandled the driver of the vehicle, Ajgar Ali, now in police custody. Around six policemen, including Chirang DSP Indrani Baruah, were injured in the incident.

Tezpur: The Dhekiajuli Mijibari unit of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti on Friday took out a procession against the illegal brick-making industry.

Protest

Golaghat: Activists of the Assam Students’ Organisation and residents of Merapani staged a demonstration at Golaghat and Merapani police stations on Friday in protest against the arrest of Aditya Saikia of Tongali around 1.30am on Thursday. Saikia, a member of the organisation, was arrested on charges of having Maoist links.

Jorhat: A garment warehouse belonging to Anwar Hussain at Daccaipatty was razed in a fire on Friday afternoon.
