Mumbai, Jan. 18: A school bus attendant was arrested yesterday for molesting a nursery student in the vehicle on Tuesday.
Officials at the school, one of Mumbai’s most reputable, said the incident took place on January 15 when the four-year-old girl was travelling in the bus, which had the accused and a lady attendant, in line with the school’s guidelines.
The girl was first pushed and then inappropriately touched by the accused, who had been employed by the bus contractor.
The lady attendant immediately confronted the accused and stopped him.
School authorities said the child informed her father, who reported the incident to the principal the following morning and also gave a written statement.
Yesterday, after discussion with the parents, the authorities lodged an FIR and handed over the bus driver, the attendant and the accused to police for questioning.
The accused has been booked under the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Ambadas Pote confirmed that the accused has been sent to police custody.
