For most capital cricket fans, the drill for getting an ODI ticket was more or less similar — waking up early, brring in the cold, standing in a queue for several hours and dodging cane blows from vigilant policemen as they inched towards the counters. For Sector V Dhurwa resident Vishal Kumar Chauhan it was login, upload, click and win a ticket.
Chauhan on Friday became the envy of the town by winning an online contest sponsored by Eylex Cinemas that got him a free ticket to the Saturday India versus England tie at the international stadium in Dhurwa.
The 23-year-old, who claimed that the win was like a dream come true for him, had uploaded his photograph and sent in a short description on why he loved cricket, as part of the requirement of the contest, on Eylex’s social networking page.
“We shortlisted some names on the basis of the number of ‘likes’ an entry got. After that, Chauhan’s name was selected after a random lottery,” Akash Jalan, owner of Eylex Cinemas told The Telegraph.
For Chauhan, however, the feeling was yet to sink in. “It is like a dream come true. I always wanted to go and watch Dhoni and his boys take on England live at the stadium. However, the tickets ran out on the second day of sales,” he said.
He added that he then noticed an advertisement in a vernacular daily, which promised tickets to the match to winners of an online contest.
“I decided to try my luck and uploaded my entry on the Facebook page of Eylex. Lady luck smiled on me and on Friday I received my ticket to go watch the match from one of the two hills reserved by Eylex at the stadium,” Chauhan said.
Jalan, who also owns Plaza Cinema in Ranchi, said they had given out two more ODI tickets after a separate lottery.
“Anyone purchasing an Eylex or a Plaza Cinema tickets in the last 10 days were asked to drop in their ticket details along with some personal information at drop boxes in both the hall,” Jalan said.
After a lottery, Dilip Agarwal (Eylex) and M. Devendru were selected as the lucky winners.
