Navajyoti Club make it to final

R Barooah cricket

Guwahati, Jan. 17: Navajyoti Club today sailed into the final of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament, organised by Gauhati Town Club, beating Genesis Club by three wickets in the first semi-final at Judges Field here.

Put in to bat, Genesis Club were restricted to 181 for six in the stipulated 35 overs. In reply, Navajyoti Club rode a hurricane 71 by Ranji player Pallav Das to achieve the target in 29.3 overs, after losing seven wickets.

Das hit 11 boundaries and a six in his innings of 71 of just 54 balls. Southpaw Parvez Aziz also scored a breezy 35 (4x5) and Abhinab Konwar chipped in with 25 (4x4).

Sanjeeb Dutta of Genesis took four wickets for 31 runs while Debajit Das and Dhiraj Singh picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Sunzow Brahma scored a run-a-ball 39 (4x3, 6x1) for Genesis and 37 runs came from the bat of Kankan Das who hammered three fours and a six in 28 balls. Manash J. Gogoi also contributed a steady 39 (4x4, 6x1).

Sibsankar Roy of Navajyoti Club took three wickets for 36 runs. Bitop Mahanta and Chanakya Sarma also scalped a wicket each.

Bud Cricket Club will meet River Rine Club in the second semi-final tomorrow.
