Dharna

Haldia, Jan. 17: The retrenched workers of Haldia Bulk Terminals today sat on a dharna in Sutahata, from where they were dispersed by police on Tuesday.

The protesters said they intended to intensify their movement to demand jobs by seeking support of workers in other industrial units, with the backing of Intuc and Citu.

Jumbos in fair

Midnapore: A herd of around 50 elephants barged into a Chandrakona fair ground from the nearby Dalma forests on Wednesday night, sparking panic among visitors. The fair was closed despite forest officials chasing the animals away.

Boy ‘kidnap’

Behrampore: A Murshidabad schoolteacher has alleged that his 16-year-old son has been kidnapped. He said he received a ransom call demanding Rs 1 lakh.
