Tiger census

Alipurduar, Jan. 16: The Buxa Tiger Reserve has not been able to conduct the tiger census as the Rs 2 crore fund given by the National Tiger Conservation Authority has not been released by the state government.

“The census was supposed to have started in November last year,” said R.P. Saini the field director of BTR.

The lack of funds has also hampered the water hole maintenance and fodder plantation in the reserve. According to a source, the tiger census in 2011 showed that there are at least 19 tigers in BTR.
